sites.   I don’t know if this person is intentionally using my moniker or not.  It’s strange that this person claims to be a black female of Nigerian heritage, like myself.  Based on the outlandish and, in some cases, comical comments I have read this person seems to be a trolling.  Like I said, this individual is NOT ME.

One a separate note, I have not ben blogging because I don’t have anything to write about at the moment.  If anyone one has a suggestion please leave a comment!

By now everyone has heard the news that Osama bin Laden is dead.  I was at the library when my brother sent me a text message that he was killed during a raid in Pakistan.   I greeted the news with a mix of awe, disbelief and jubilation.  Despite this seemingly good news I believe it would have been better for the AMerican people if bin Laden was captured alive and tried in a military tribunal.  It would be interesting to hear the case and interviews of bin Laden.

One question that has been on my mind since last night, do those marines get to split the reward money???

Im just asking.

My hair has grown, but I’m a bit scissor happy and I’m always trimming the ends.  I trim once every two weeks, which is too much.  It doesnt bother me because I’m not looking to grow my hair long.  If it does grow very long I wouldn’t mind, it’s just not a priority, for me.

Here is the link to the researcher’s abstract.  I didn’t realize this research was conducted in Dr. Buss’s lab until after I wrote all of this up, how is that for coincidence.

The reason for this, I speculate, is the paternity uncertainty principle.   When a woman has a child she knows for a fact that the kid his her’s, for men, there is no way of knowing(sans a paternity test) whether you’re the father of your wife/girlfriend’s child.  It’s an evolutionary throw-back, if you will.  Before the days of DNA testing men had no way of knowing whether they were the father of their mate’s offspring.  Because of this a woman who was caught (or suspected) of infidelity would “lose mate value” (for lack of a better term).  Obviously, loss in mate value can result in being dumped, having resources diverted from her offspring, or in the worst cases it can result in murder.  This could explain why a woman cheating on her husband/boyfriend with another female isn’t seen as a threat.  There is no fear of having to allocate resources to a child conceived through cuckoldry.  And in some instances it may “benefit” the male by introducing him to a new sexual partner.

*Aside*

The main motive for homicide is sexual jealousy.  Men are more likely to be murdered AND fall victim to murder.  However, when men murder women, they are usually acting on some type of sexual jealousy or slight.  The two main motives for male-on-female murder are

1. Infidelity on the part of the woman(real or perceived) and

2. A woman he wants/invested plenty of resources in leaves him…especial if she leaves him for another man.

On the other hand women don’t have the female version of paternity  uncertainty, women have to worry about whether the father(s) of their offspring are willing investing time and resources into the offspring.  So women, although bother by cheating mates, will be more forgiving of male cheaters.  This may be due to the potential loss of resources if a woman leaves her offspring’s father.  If she leaves she will no longer have direct access to his resources.  Also, women tend to be more bothered by their men cheating with the same woman over an extended period of time.  The reason being, emotional attachment/cheating repeatedly with the same woman can translate into reallocation of resources from her offspring to the offspring of the other woman.  According to this study women are less likely than men to leave cheating spouses.  I havent run across the study yet(matter of fact, don’t know if it had been conducted) but I’m willing to bet women are less forgiving of long-term-mates who keep mistresses rather than having multiple one night stands.

While I was lurking on OKCupid I answered many of their matching questions, on of which was “Which would bother you more?  Your spouse having multiple one-night-stands, or having an affair with the same person over a certain period of time?”  I answered that the former, multiple one-night-stands, would turn me off the most.  My biggest fear would be contracting some type of STD.  What was interesting is that the men, from what I observed, were more bothered by the thought  of their mates having multiple one-night-stand.  On the other hand women, typically, answered that their mates carrying on affairs with the same woman over an extended period time was more upsetting.

White Teeth by Zadie Smith:

I read her novel “On Beauty” a few years back and liked it.  To be honest, I didn’t get the main point of the book but it was a very entertaining read.  An excellent book for a first time novelist.  Because of that and a suggestion by Chic at Abagond’s I decided to give it a try, and picked it up at Half Priced Books last week.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen:

I was watching the movie on television the other day and it seemed interesting.  I was at Half Priced browsing and I can across a brand-spanking-new hardback that housed the complete novels of Jane Austen.  The book was only $9.95, and there was a 20% of the entire store sale going on so I picked it up.

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova:

I remember buying this book on sale somewhere (either Barnes and Noble or Border Books) when I was in high school.  I read the first few pages, although it was interesting I think I dropped it to read another book.  I bought it because from what I heard it was a non-sappy book about vampires/Dracula and had elements of Gothic literature in it.  I am expecting it to be a bit like Bram Stoker’s Dracula with regards to its literary elements and religious symbolism but some of the reviews I have read tell me it may be a disappointment.  I have heard this book is a bit one-dimensional.  Well, I guess I will have to read it to believe it.

The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer:

I have read some of the tales but not all. Like most of my books I picked up the Canterbury Tales at Half Priced books will browsing.  It was brand-new with a beautiful cover, and it only cost me about $20.  I remember reading excerpts of the some of the Tales my senior year of high school but I didn’t really become interested in the complete work until I read, Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet.  The war that took place over the span of the novel was waged as a reaction to the murder of Thomas  Becket at the Canterbury Cathedral.  As many of you already know the Canterbury Tales is a compilation of stories

told by pilgrims on their way to Thomas Becket’s shrine at Canterbury Cathedral.

The Art of Seduction by Robert Greene:

My roommate recommended this book to me.  Unfortunately, she just broke up with her boyfriend ans I was helping her collect her things when I stumbled across the book.  She saw me flipping through the pages and said it was a good read.  My roommate happens to be one of those people who could convince a fish to by a bicycle, if she says a book about having power over others will be a worthwhile read, Ill take her word for it.  I wonder is it will incorporate some Evolutionary Theory?  Thus far, this book appears have peaked my interest the most.  I’ll probably put everything else on the back-burner to dig into this one.

The Complete Astrologer by Derek and Julia Parker:

I’ve always had a passing interest in astrology, it wasn’t until recently that I decided I wanted to make an effort to deepen my understanding of this subject.  The Obsidian Files, being an astrologer, recommended some reading material for beginners like me.
